Friday, June 30th, 2008 was a great day for rollerblading. Jonas Hansson’s new video entitled FLYGT had its premiere screening. I was among the lucky that got the chance to the see movie. Hopefully the rest of the world will as well – time will tell. Jonas Hansson has made a movie that has been cut and edited to perfection. Really! FLYGT is an amazing skate film – one that I wanted to replay as soon as it was over.
FLYGT is nothing like any skate film you have seen. First of all – there are no profiles and no sections. At one point – and only one point in the movie, you think an apparently very long intro is over as the image on the screen fades to black, only to be blazed with an up-tempo blast of new tricks. Jonas very successfully combines tempo changes and moody images to keep you engaged.
The trick focus isn’t hammers, but seems to be perfect execution and attention to detail – which much resembles what I believe is Jonas’ view on skating: each skater has a unique skating persona, which in its own can be enjoyable enough to watch. And it is.
If FLYGT becomes available on either DVD or as a download this is a true must have!
